After nearly 40 years of guiding and running hospitality businesses – from Alaska to Lees Ferry – Wendy and I understand what people want and need when they go on a fishing vacation. So, after a lot of thought, we are hosting a limited number of exclusive fly-fishing trips each year. This is your invitation to come fish with Wendy and me. Each of these adventures has been selected for the best days, the best waters, the best lodges, the best guides, and the best opportunity to catch the fish of a lifetime. Wendy and I have personally selected the very best of the very best! Come join us for an unforgettable fishing experience.

Amazon – Abacaxi River, Brazil

Fishing the Amazon region has been a must-do, bucket-list trip for as long as we can remember.

This trip combines back-country experience with incredible exotic fishing along with abundant wildlife and native cultures. Our host, U.S. owned and operated Nomadic Waters, has been the Amazon expert since 2009.

This private fishery in the Brazilian State of Amazonas has been untouched by any angling pressure for years. These waters are known for its population of the rare and distinctively bluish hued Pinima peacock bass, a highly aggressive cichlid prized by species hunters. But it’s far from the only target. There are arowana to 14 pounds, borboletta (butterfly) and popoca peacock bass, and matrinxa. The piranha is often called bluegill on steroids, and at around 2-pounds, perfect sport on a 6-weight outfit.

What makes this location special?

There were two types of prey in the waters of the Amazon Region, the fast and the slow.

Unfortunately, the last of the slow fish disappeared 10,000 years ago.

What remained is the combination of an untouched fishery and its population of extremely aggressive peacock bass, making this fishery in the heart of the Amazon memorable beyond words. 2023 is the time to fish it, as no one has been in here in years! This is also our only location where guests can consistently sight-fish to schools of large, cruising arowana with a dry fly!

Martin Pescador Lodge, Chile

The angling programs in Chile blend the best of the region’s fishing with an unmatched degree of personalization. Martín Pescador Lodge, a multi-destination experience with a 20+ year legacy, delivers an extraordinary combination of quality and quantity — both of trout and water. This robust operation with a midweek transfer is full of action, void of pressure, and altogether incredible.

Martin Pescador Lodge’s focus is to get you out fishing, catching lots of fish and having a great time. The best way to do this is to have multiple locations and many, many boats. The lodge not only offers some of the most diverse fishing in the world, but it provides dining and accommodations to match.

Martin Pescador’s program provides anglers the opportunity to fish out of three lodges, with direct access to 12 world class rivers, eight lakes, and numerous streams throughout the region. With a reputation for guiding anglers to some exceptionally large trout, Martin Pescador utilizes a combination of jet boats, lake boats, and rafts to ensure access to even the most remote and untouched waters. Careful placement of Martin Pescador’s Puerto Cardenas and La Junta Lodges allows for flexible and convenient access to the Yelcho, Futaleufu, Palena, Rosselot, Figueroa, Pico, and other rivers, where you can expect to catch rainbows, browns, sea-run browns, and occasionally salmon and brook trout. A typical week-long itinerary will have you fishing the Largo Yelcho region for three days out of Puerto Cardenas Lodge before transferring to La Junta Lodge on the Rio Rosselot.

Martin Pescador has more than 30 boats in the region to provide guests with a vast range of fishing options.

Their 7 day package begins with a 3 day stay at Puerto Cardenas lodge and is completed with 4 days at La Junta lodge. In addition, with extended packages and upon request, guests may also stay at the exclusive Lago Verde location.
